ACT Win Silver At Nationals: ACT/ Bicycle Design Centre Riders Liam collins, Brendan Whelan and Philip Ryan won an Elite National Silver Medal at the Team Sprint Championships at Sundrive Velodrome on Saturday (Aug 3rd). The 2011 Champions / 2012 Silver Medallists only lost out on regaining their Title by a fraction of a Second to the Sundrive Track Team.
The Team changed their format from previous years, with Collins leading off , Whelan as Man 2 , and new Sprint rider Philip Ryan doing the final leg. The riders performed well , setting a new National Record in their attempt, but lost out again to the Sundrive Track team in the final ride of the day. Veteran Cyclists Whelan & Collins have a great record in this very technical National event and have won many Medals in Team Sprint both at Elite & Veteran level. Brendan Whelan was riding on a specially designed Track Bike in the event, custom made in Ireland at the Bicycle Design Centre, and although he now has an Irish record of five Elite National Team Sprint Medals, he will now retire from this level for 2014. Philip Ryan was riding in his first Elite National Championships, and the 18 year old full time Track Sprinter (Coached by Liam Collins) has announced his arrival on the Senior scene with a National Medal at his first attempt.
